1. Sit

Firstly, crouch in front of the puppy with food in your hand as bait.

Secondly, hold the treat just in front of your puppy's nose and slowly raise it over his head. He will probably sit and raise his head to chew on the treat.

Thirdly, when your puppy butts touch the ground, let him have a treat.

Fourthly, repeat this one or two times with the food bait, then remove the food and use only your bare hands, but continue to reward your puppy after he sits.

Fifthly, once your puppy understand the sit sign, you can start saying "sit" before giving the sign.

It should be noted that never force a puppy to sit; this can confuse or upset some dogs.

2. Down

The "Down" command can be taught very similarly to "sit." Here's the detailed processes.

  1. Have your dog sit down and hold a treat close to his nose to get his attention.
  2. Next, slowly move the treat vertically down between your dog's front paws and along the ground away from your dog. This motion encourages your dog to follow the treat and to lie down.
  3. Once your dog is completely lying down, immediately use a marker word like "yes" or a clicker to indicate the correct behavior, then give him a reward.
  4. As soon as your dog consistently follows the lure and gets down, start saying the word "down" before you start using the lure. As time goes by, your dog will link the verbal command to the action.
  5. To ensure your dog can perform the behavior consistently, practice the command in different settings with varying distractions.

It is worth noting that making sure to keep training sessions brief and upbeat, rewarding your dog while he's in the down position to strengthen the behavior.

  2. Encourage your dog with an excited voice to get him to come to you.

4. Stay

A puppy that knows "stay" will sit until you give him another cue called the "release word" to get him to stand up. Because staying is a persistent behavior. The goal is to teach your dog to sit until you give the "release word" cue and then start to pull away.

It takes some patience to teach your dog to "stay", but this basic dog training command is very effective. For example, it can prevent your dog from rushing out the door or toward a potentially dangerous object. So, for your puppy's safety, the following processes are important to obey.

  1. Begin with your dog lying down, as this will help him feel at ease and reduce the chances of movement.
  2. Next, mark the behavior and reward your dog swiftly before he has a chance to move.
  3. As soon as he gets the idea, you extend the time they stay and then give him a reward.
  4. Once your dog is doing this consistently, gradually increase the distance between you and the dog as the dog remains still.

By adhering to these steps, you'll be able to successfully train your dog to "stay," improving both his safety and discipline.
